Solve a Rubik's Cube quickly with this fun DiscoverHow Guide from Sandra Jennings.

The Rubik’s Cube has challenged people for over three decades. While some are naturals at solving Rubik’s Cubes, others need a little help to get all the colors in order.

There are many ways to solve a Rubik’s Cube, but here’s one easy back-to-basics solution that will help you get all the reds, greens, yellows, blues and whites in place.

How to Solve a Rubik’s Cube

The first cross – This is the first and the most challenging part of the puzzle given that the puzzle can be arranged in any way. The first thing to remember in this step is that the center piece of the cube on each side must remain the way it is. The color of the center piece will determine the color of all tiles on that face. Move the tiles around until you get your first colored + shaped cross in place.

Bottom corners – Start on the second step by finding a tile color in the bottom most layer that matches the first cross that you have already achieved in the first step. Move around the tiles in a way that puts the selected tile directly underneath the top position, that is, the corners, since the cross has already taken all the rest of the spots. Do this for all the corner tiles to complete one side of the Rubik’s cube.

Middle layers – Before you start the third step, make sure that the finished side is at the bottom. Make adjustments to the top layer of the cube to arrive at a situation where another color makes an inverted ‘T’ on one of the sides. Now move the middle piece on the top to its correct place in the middle row. Perform this step for all the four sides of the cube, and you will have two layers of same colored tiles.

Second cross – It involves moving the tiles to get a second cross on the top of the cube, without changing the orientation of the sides, that is, keeping the finished side still at the bottom.

Align the corners – This is a repeat of the second step of the puzzle. The objective is to again find cross colored tile in the bottom layer and align it directly underneath its rightful place. Move tiles to put them in the corners to complete the entire puzzle.

Once you’ve mastered the technique above, you should be able to quickly and easy solve any Rubik’s Cube. Good luck!
