iPhone 6 likely to release in Australia in September 2014
The iPhone 6 is rumoured to launch in Australia and worldwide on September 9 2014, just in time for the release of iOS 8.
The 4.7″ iPhone 6 is expected to retail at around $869 AUD and be available through Telstra, Optus, Vodafone and Virgin, who also carried the iPhone 5 at launch.
Major iPhone redesign
Smoothed out contours
Rumour has it that the bodies of both the 4.7″ iPhone 6 and 5.5″ iPhone Air models are going to featured smooth, rounded edges akin to the original iPhone. 9to5Mac has leaked three photos of gold, black and silver iPhone 6 bodies.
Thinner than the iPhone 5S
Citing Apple’s recent patent filings for liquidmetal 3D printing, many commentators believe that Apple is going to leverage the technology to create the slimmest and lightest body for the iPhone yet – perhaps even slimmer than the 7.6mm iPhone 5S body.
It’s also rumoured that the Apple logo on the back of the iPhone will be able to light up, serving a similar function to the notification LED of Samsung phones.
Sapphire glass screen
Perhaps the most exciting innovation of the iPhone 6 is the introduction of a sapphire glass screen, rumoured to be stronger and more resilient than the Gorilla Glass displays of previous models.
I’m hoping that this will do away with the need for iPhone 6 screen protectors.
iPhone 6 technology
The larger iPhone 6 body will supposedly give way to a larger logic board that hosts a faster A8 chip, NFC technology and 802.11ac Wi-Fi. Rumour has it that the iPhone 6 may come equipped with a 2100mAh battery, a significant improvement over the 1560mAh battery of the iPhone 5.
Although we expect to see better iPhone 6 battery life, it’s hard to tell whether we’ll see any improvement at all until we see some iOS 8 battery life benchmarks.
iPhone 6 leaked photos
A number of supposedly leaked photos of the iPhone 6 have been doing the rounds on the internet. Could these photos be real? We’ll be sure to know in a few weeks.
